BIAL clarifies on safety, efficiency

Last Updated 14 February 2012, 19:59 IST

The Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has issued a clarification with reference to the report ‘Public plundering partnerships in infrastructure projects,’ that appeared in the February 6 edition of Deccan Herald.

The BIAL said it has taken consistent initiatives to keep the airport safe and passenger-friendly. The runway is closed for 24 days for the ongoing expansion work and not 55 days as reported in the article, it said.

“As regards safety issues and the crack that could lead to a crash as mentioned, we would like to clarify that runway quality can never lead to a crash. Crash is always caused by aircraft failure, collision or due to inclement weather. Currently, the runway is safe for operation and does not compromise on safety. The work being taken up by BIAL showcases the organisation’s focus on its ‘safety first’ philosophy and it will be completed before the onset of monsoon.”

BIAL is committed to establishing the Bengaluru International Airport as one of India’s leading airports in terms of quality and efficiency and set a benchmark for future development of airports in the country, it said.

BIAL has consistently maintained the highest standards of operational performance and set benchmarks that are unparalleled in the country, some of which are: The best punctuality or On Time Performance record among all airports in the country, averaging 83 per cent year round; availability and serviceability of key airport infrastructure and IT systems at 99.6 per cent for the last three-and-a-half years.

Finally, the industry as a whole has recognised BIAL at both national and international forums for its service delivery, airport management and marking Karnataka as a destination through awards and accolades.
