Karadigodu turns into heart of darkness

Last Updated 15 February 2012, 17:51 IST

The residents of Karadigodu second ward have been demanding electricity connection for the last three decades and are still living in darkness.

Though Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Scheme which was chalked out to provide electricity to each and every household in the villages has taken off in the region, the residents of Karadigodu second ward are still reeling under darkness.

Karadigodu second ward is situated just a kilometre away from Siddapura town. In fact, Chescom had included the ward for rural electrification under Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Scheme.

However, the scheme has remained only on papers for the villagers. The villagers have been demanding electricity and have staged several protests. When they decided to boycott taluk panchayat, zilla panchayat and gram panchayat elections, the elected representatives promised to provide electricity.

However, the promises have not been met yet.

Villagers had even come forward to bear the cost of transporting the electric poles which were meant for Karadigodu second ward from Bairambada in Ammathi Gram Panchayat.  But while transporting, the Chescom engineers stopped the vehicle and said that there is shortage of equipment to provide electricity connections.

However, chescom has remained mum over the issue. There are 17 families residing in second ward.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, resident Vaiju M D said that the department could have easily given electricity but since the authorities had included 17 houses in the second ward along with 100 houses situated on border of forest area, the process is getting delayed.

If the authorities prepare a separate action plan for the 17 houses, then we will get electricity within no time, Vaiju added.
