The Congress has heralded the defeat of the BJP in the forth coming Udupi-Chikmagalur Parliament constituency election. Citing examples of the shameful episodes concerning BJP minister Halappa, Renukacharya and the recent porngate incident, Congress District President M L Murthy said that all these incidents will have adverse affect on election results for the BJP.

Addressing a news conference on Friday, Murthy said that fact concerning Tiger conservation project, yellow leaf disease, illegal sand mining, drought relief works, Karadaga-Malur Lift Irrigation Projects will be presented before the people during the elections because the BJP has made tall claims about these projects and did nothing in this direction.

“We are seeing favourable atmosphere all over the State and we are confident of winning this election,” he said adding that the announcement of the name of the candidate has been delayed but names of senior and experienced leaders Jayaprakash Hegde, B L Shankar, D K Taradevi, Vinay Kumar Sorake, B K Hariprasad are being heard at the higher levels.

“We have urged the High Command to give ticket to pro-people and popular candidate this time. The candidate chosen by the High Command will be accepted by us without any difference,” he declared.

Croc tears

Speaking about H D Devegowda’s stand over Tiger Project, Murthy said that JD(S) Supremo is shedding ‘crocodile tears’ for the farmers now because when he was the PWD Minister a delegation led by H H Devaraj had demanded shifting of Bhadra Reserve Forest. Devegowda had not responded to the plea then.

Responding to the allegation made by Devaraj that Congress leaders have been bought by the BJP, Murthy said that the person leveling allegation has to furnish specific details with regard to the leader who has been purchased by the BJP and at what cost he has been bought.

False secularism

Murthy, coming down heavily on JD(S) for having accepted Mahendra Kumar into the Party, said that Mahendra Kumar had done same thing what Narendra Modi did in Gujarat.

“By accepting a person like Mahendra Kumar JD(S) has proved that its secularism is fake,” he said adding that all the charges against Mahendra Kumar must be investigated at the earliest.

Ridiculing MLA C T Ravi for his ‘Grama Vasthavya’, he said that Ravi has set his foot out, towards the villagers knowing it fully well that his identity is under threat in the district.

“This move of Ravi clearly shows BJP’s fear of facing elections,” he said.

Congress party spokesperson A N Mahesh among others were present during the occassion.
