Madhya Pradesh is all set to get a state-of-the-art Central Forensic Institute soon which will be among the three new institutes contemplated by the union government.

The Institute will come up near village Barkheda Baunder, on the outskirts of Bhopal, said Dr R K Sareen, Project Coordinator. The institute will cater to crime investigation agencies of not only Madhya Pradesh, but the entire North India.

It will have facilities such as speech and video analysis, cyber forensic, chemical analysis, document analysis, ballistic and DNA testing. The Directorate of Forensic Sciences, Delhi, is in talks with the Union Home Ministry to get the required orders. Subsequently, the work for the institute will commence after the local government completes formalities.

Madhya Pradesh currently has three regional forensic science labs; at Gwalior, Indore and Bhopal. Sagar houses the state forensic lab. Currently, such forensic centres are located at Hyderabad, Chandigarh, New Delhi (CBI) and Kolkata. New, upgraded centres of international standards would be coming up at Bhopal, Pune and in Assam.
