JOIN USA 16-year-old girl committed suicide after she was allegedly kidnapped and then molested while she was returning from school, police said on Saturday.
The victim and one of her friend were lured by the two accused, including a minor boy, on Friday evening in Outer Delhi's Bhalswa Dairy area. “The victim was known to the accused and both belong to the same area,” said a senior police officer.
The girls were taken to a flat where one of the accused molested the victim while her friend was left with another accused. They were later let off.
“The victim reached her house around 8:30 pm on Friday and she committed suicide by consuming poisonous substance around 3:30 am on Saturday. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead,” said an officer.
The police came to know about the incident after the hospital authorities informed them.
The victim's friend, who was with her during the incident, told police that since she was in the other room she was unaware of whether her friend was raped or not. However, she said the victim was molested, according to the officer.
The victim’s parents too were unaware about the reason behind her suicide.
“We are yet to confirm the reason behind her extreme step. The possibility of rape cannot be ruled out but we are waiting for the post- mortem report,” said the officer. A case of kidnapping and molestation has been registered.
