Metro services on the busy Noida line were delayed on Tuesday after trains were run at restricted speed due to a problem in the track circuit, causing severe inconvenience to commuters.

The problem in the circuit device was detected around 7:25 am and was rectified by 11 am during which services were delayed, a Delhi Metro spokesman said.

“Due to the problem, trains were run at a restricted speed. But it was sorted out by 11 am,” he said. Though the problem in the circuit track was between Yamuna Bank and Indraprastha stations, services were delayed on the entire line as the trains were run at restricted speed.

The problem caused severe hardships to office-goers as they were stranded at stations due to the delay. A track circuit is a simple electrical device used to detect presence of a train on tracks and inform signallers.

According to the DMRC spokesperson, such disruption of service is not bound to happen frequently as engineers work round the clock to keep the Metro system efficient.
