Three teenagers killed in accident

Last Updated 21 February 2012, 20:24 IST

Three teenagers were killed and one was injured on Tuesday, when the car they were travelling in, crashed into a stationary lorry at Dasarahalli Gate on Old Madras Road.

The victims have been identified as Kiran, Keshav and Aslan. The injured, Rahul Peter, 18, was rushed to Nimhans.

While Kiran is a II PU student of Christ College, details of the other teenagers have not been disclosed. All the four are said to be children of businessmen.

Aslan was reportedly driving the high-end ‘re-modelled’ car and Keshav was sitting next to him. Kiran and Rahul Peter were seated in the back, when the incident occurred around 3 am on the NH-4, 33 km from the City.

The relatives, who rushed to the spot, alleged that the lorry was “parked carelessly in the middle of the road”. Alerted by a passerby, the police rushed to the spot 30 minutes after the accident.

They suspect Aslan must have veered the car off the road, while trying to avoid a speeding vehicle coming from the opposite direction and rammed into the lorry parked on the roadside. Such was the impact of the accident that the car was stuck under the lorry and it took more than three hours for the police to get the mangled remains out.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Kiran’s relatives said he was studying hard for the PU exams and usually stayed up till late in the night.

On Monday night, Kiran wanted to take a break from studies and around 11.30 pm, he informed his parents that he would go out for 15 minutes. He met his friends, and later they decided to go on a long drive.

The police are investigating why the boys were travelling towards Kolar and to ascertain whether they had a valid driving licence.

The doctors at Nimhans said Peter suffered severe head injuries and was referred to the St John’s Hospital. Peter is in  coma and is being treated at the ICU.

The doctors at St John’s Hospital have recommended a surgery and declined to divulge any further details.
