Two borewells have been dug to provide water to participants of the cattle fair at the Ramalingeshwara temple in Avani, said Mulbagal tahsildar P Jayamadhava.

Deccan Herald had carried a report on February 21 on the lack of shelter and water at the annual event in the village.

The report mentioned how, although farmers from nearby villages, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu bring their cattle to the fair and the turnover is estimated to cross about Rs one crore, they are forced to stay under the blazing sun or makeshift sheds of plastic or coconut fronds throughout the cattle fair.

Shortage of water supply affected both man and animal greatly. Two tanks were constructed for the event, but they went dry all too soon.

The lack of facilities forced the farmers to cut short the 10-day event by the half the time span.

Jayamadhava said that water would be supplied through tankers and water tanks were constructed near the village for the cattle.
