Being Star
Last Updated 29 February 2012, 14:13 IST

Model and actor Gauhar Khan, who worked with Ranbir Kapoor in Yash Raj banner’s film Rocket Singh: Salesman of the year (2009) is all praises for him, calling the son of yesteryear actors Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh a thorough gentleman. Gauhar is so impressed with him that she is looking forward to working with Ranbir again.

While recalling her experiences to Metrolife, the 31-year-old actress says, “There is a difference in being charming and being flirtatious. Ranbir is extremely charming. Neetuji and Rishiji are beautiful people and that is what Ranbir has inherited from them. He is a thorough gentleman and a great professional. It was my privilege to work with him. I hope to work with him again.”

Gauhar, younger sister of television actor Nigaar Khan, started her career in modelling and has appeared in many music videos before getting into films. She embarked on her film career with Miss India: The Mystery (2003) and since then has been loving every bit of it. “I love being an actress. In modelling, you get to do the same thing everyday. But acting is where I can explain and explore my talent and become a different character with every film. Being an actress excites me the most,” she shares.

For her sister Nigaar, modelling and acting happened accidentally, but for Gauhar it was a planned move. “I knew I wanted to be in performing arts even when I was five. Even for family pictures, I posed stylishly,” she says.

And does she face any professional competition from her sister? Gauhar quickly denies and says, “We know that our talent and appearance are very different. So there is no competition. And also whenever we work on the same project, we encourage each other and make each other comfortable. She is my sister... I love her and want the best for her. I am sure she wishes the same for me.”

Born and brought up in Pune, Gauhar has been living in Gurgaon for the past two years and is currently playing a female lead with actor Hussain Kuwajerwala in show Zangoora: The Gypsy Prince at Kingdom of Dreams. While Gauhar loves the infrastructure of Delhi, her only wish is that the City becomes safer for women. “I love Delhi but I wish it were safer for women. I hope Mumbai can catch up with the kind of infrastructure and facilities you have in Delhi,” she says.

While talking about her future projects, Gauhar says her next film would again be under Yash Raj banner. “I have just finished shooting for my next film with Yash Raj banner. It will release sometime in May,” Gauhar signs off.
