Two women commit suicide

A housewife jumped to death from the fourth floor of her apartment in Chikkathoguru in Electronics City and another ended her life by hanging from a tree in Maruthi Nagar in Madiwala on Sunday morning.

According to the Electronics City police, Poovamma, 58, a native of Madikeri, was residing in a flat in an apartment complex in Chikkathoguru with her husband, who works as a security supervisor in a software company. The couple were married for 20 years.

Poovamma was depressed as they had no children. She was constantly bickering about the issue, the police added.

In the wee hours of Sunday, Poovamma went to the fourth floor of her apartment and jumped to the ground. She succumbed to severe head injuries. The neighbours, who heard a noise, found Poovamma lying in a pool of blood. They informed the police, who shifted the body to hospital.

In another incident, a 37-year-old homemaker was found hanging from a tree in Maruthi Nagar in Madiwala police station limits in the early hours of Sunday.

The deceased, Mari, a native of Tamil Nadu, was living with her husband in the City. They were working as daily wage labourers.

Mari was upset about her husband’s drinking habit. She had advised him to stop drinking, but he had continued with his ways which resulted in Mari slipping into depression.

The incident came to light on Sunday morning when some passersby noticed
the woman hanging from a tree.

They informed the police and with help of the locals, the police established her identity. She had gone missing from her house on Saturday evening, they added.
