Seventy-two hours after the advocates in the City Civil Court went on a rioting spree, the victims are returning home from hospital. Most police personnel, who were at the receiving end of the lawyers’ rage in Friday’s incident, are stated to be out of danger.

Narayanaswamy (52), a head constable from Kodigehalli police station who suffered a major head injury during the Friday riot, told Deccan Herald this was the first time in his 42-year career that he had received such an injury. He is still unable to walk on his own and feels dizzy when he tries to stand up.

His brother Srinivas says Narayanaswamy is not able to recall how he sustained the injury.

“He says some heavy object came from nowhere and hit his head. He fell on the ground bleeding profusely.”

The head constable was admitted to the observation ward in Nimhans and has already undergone three CT scans.

“We diagnosed that the patient has blood clots in the brain. His face and eyes are swollen, which is part of the post-traumatic syndrome,” said the medical superintendent of Nimhans. The hospital authorities state that the blood clots may subside soon.

Another constable, Chandrappa, from K R Puram police station was discharged from Nimhans as he chose to be treated in a private hospital.  The constable suffered neck injury where the soft tissues were damaged; he also suffered hand injuries.

The doctor at Nimhans said there was no injury to his spinal chord.

Advocates get treatment

On Sunday, four advocates visited Victoria Hospital as outpatients for treatment of head injuries.  A doctor at the hospital said that most of the victims of the riot were treated as outpatients and no admissions were made.

At Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital, Devendra, an advocate who had suffered a nasal bone fracture was discharged. He was later admitted to a private hospital for further treatment.
