ZP election postponed to September 11

The election was to be held on August 24 but it had been postponed to September 4 due to lack of quorum. However, it has been again postponed for a week in the backdrop of YSR’s tragic demise in a helicopter mishap. Regional Commissioner M V Jayanthi has issued a circular in this regard. The elections will be held at 3 pm on September 11.

Both the Congress and the BJP are working behind the screens to grab the ZP of its last term. Abdul Latif and Bhanumathi from Congress have submitted their papers for the posts of president and vice president respectively, while Congress-rebel V M Vijaya and Anitha Kanjitanda from the BJP have submitted their nomination papers for the president and vice president posts respectively.

In the 29-member Zilla Panchayat, 15 are from Congress, 10 are from BJP, 3 are from JD(S) and one member is Independent. S N Rajarao, H B Jayamma and Sanjay Jeevijaya who won with the Congress support are with BJP now. V M Vijaya has already been expelled from the Congress for contesting from the BJP. Rajarao, Jayamma and Sanjay Jeevijaya have been suspended from the Congress.

Last chance
Congress has given a last chance to these three members to support the party in the elections to be held on September 11. It has warned them of complaining to the Election Commission regarding their anti-party activities. In the meantime, H S Ashok who had been the ZP president in the first term with the Congress support, has been identified with BJP now.

In a surprising development, three women members of the BJP, who were disappointed with their party, have decided to support Congress-rebel V M Vijaya who is contesting under the BJP’s banner. They were particular that somebody from the party should be allowed to contest. However, now they have bowed before the party seniors.

In another development, JD(S) State President H D Kumaraswamy has issued a whip to three party members in the ZP to support BJP’s V M Vijaya in the elections. It has raised the eyebrows of even the JD(S) members. Of the three JD(S) members, H B Ganesh has already identified with the BJP.

In the meantime, V P Shashidhar who won from the JD(S) is actively involved with Congress and has vowed that no way he can support the BJP. The only remaining JD(S) member is P B Manjula and it is interesting to know about her decision.

“Our District President Shanthu Appaiah has already issued a whip for the elections which was scheduled to be held on August 24. Now it is suspicious why the State chief has issued a whip again. I feel that there are less possibilities of HDK issuing a whip asking us to vote for BJP candidate. Or else, a former minister from the district might have influenced Kumaraswamy to issue a whip to support BJP,” said V P Shashidhar.
