Delhi govt directs MCD to divide budget into three parts

The Delhi government has directed the MCD to split its annual budget for 2012-13 into three parts as three new municipalities will come into existence after the civic polls next month.

"We have asked the MCD to recast its budget for the three new civic bodies as they will require financial resources immediately after coming into existence after the polls next month," a senior government official told PTI.

Elections to all three new municipalities will be held on April 15 and counting of votes will take place on April 17.

The entire exercise to constitute the three new corporations -- North, South and East Delhi municipalities -- will be completed by April 21, when the tenure of the current MCD house ends.

The Directorate of Municipal Corporation, which will coordinate among all the three municipalities, has started framing administrative rules and other necessary ground work for smooth functioning of the the new municipalities curved out of the MCD.

"We are working round the clock to complete all the ground work for the new municipalities before April 21," the official said.

The Delhi Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Bill was passed by Delhi Assembly on December 1, paving way for trifurcation of the MCD. The Bill was given assent by President Pratibha Patil in December last year following which the city government notified it as an Act.

The North and South Delhi bodies will have 104 wards each, while the civic body in East Delhi will have 64 wards.
