Maharashtra’s former Director-General of Police Hasan Gafoor, who had held the post of city police chief during the 26/11 attacks on Mumbai, passed away here on Monday following a massive heart attack. He was 62.

Though Gafoor was a low-profile officer throughout his career, the terror attacks in November 2008 in Mumbai, brought him into media glare when he damned his junior officers for “letting him down during the terror strike.”

Gafoor with aristocratic roots joined the Indian Police Service in 1974 after graduating as an electrical engineer. After the 2008 terror attacks, Gafoor was shifted to the Anti-Corruption Bureau as DGP  and thereafter to the Police Housing from where he retired.
