Dept of Public Instruction needs cleanliness education

Last Updated 12 March 2012, 19:04 IST

Heard of the fable of an old man who had a chopper, expensive cars and a yatch but did not have a slipper to wear. Tale of Department of Public Instruction functioning in Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat office in Kottara is the same.

It is the department, which has entrusted the responsibility of  providing facilities to these Government run educational institutions, but surprisingly this department does not have a proper display board! The story is the same with most of the other departments as well but what the Department of Public Instruction has done is that it has converted the white walls near its office into a display board.

Various materials, government communications, hand written literature etc have been pasted on the walls ‘adding’ to the beauty of the office. Though a small wooden notice board is there in the office, it is only an ornamental figure now.

Though, this has been going on right in front of the DDPI’s office, it has not caught the attention of the DDPI yet.

However, speaking to Deccan Herald Deputy Director of Public Instructions Moses Jayashekhar said that Education Department is planning to have a new notice board after the wall is painted. Ironically an advertisement on ‘Vastrasagara-2007’ is still safe intact on the wall, right outside ZP Chief’s cabin.

Later, in a rather sullen tone, the DDPI said that electronic display board has not been a part of this office because it costs Rs 40,000!

“Information about permanent projects is being displayed using electronic display board, but it costs Rs 40,000 to buy a separate electronic display board for Education Department. If State Project Director (SPD) supplies them it would be of great help,” he said.

ZP building is crying for beautification anyways. The corners of the building have been conveniently converted into dump yards where broken furniture, printing material etc are piled.

ZP President K T Shailaja Bhat agreed that the maintenance of the ZP building should be improved as it should not irritate the public.  She said that she would consider the matter seriously. “About electronic display board and other matters I would speak with the  CEO and other officers to find a solution as early as possible. We will seriously consider the matter,” she said.
