A motorist narrowly escaped death in Narela on Sunday when some youths in an SUV fired at him for not letting them overtake him.

They fired four bullets at Vijender Khatri. A bullet passed close to his head and another brushed past his ear, police said. The incident was reported at 9:30 pm on Sunday from Bakner Holi Chowk in outer Delhi’s Narela area, said a police official.

Khatri was travelling on his i10 car on Bakner road and was on his way to Bakner village.

“The road that he was travelling on was narrow and therefore two vehicles cannot pass at the same time. A Scorpio driver who was coming from behind was continuously honking horn to get passage but Khatri could not give way to him,” said a senior police officer.

Aggravated over this, the Scorpio driver drove his car near Khatri’s car and started firing. “He fired four rounds towards Khatri. He received minor injuries in his ear,” said the officer.

Khatri told police that he saw four to five youths travelling in the Scorpio and all of them seemed to be drunk. “He noted down the registration number of the car and gave it to the police,” added the officer.

A case of attempt to murder against unknown persons has been registered at Narela police station.
