A 22-year-old engineering student was stabbed to death allegedly by his juniors at a private university on Jaipur-Delhi national highway near here, police said on Wednesday.

Prashantveer, a BTech third year student of the Amity University, was thrashed and later stabbed with a knife allegedly by his juniors following an altercation on Tuesday night, they said.

He hailed from Uttar Pradesh and stayed at the university hostel. Police have detained four students in connection with the incident.

The university authorities, however, said the incident had not affected normal activities at the campus. “Four of our students have been detained by police. They are looking into the matter. As far as functioning of the university is concerned, it is normal,” said Savita Mehta, vice president (communications) of the university.

She said a condolence meeting was also organised on Wednesday in memory of the victim.
