In response to the appeal by the Joint Action Committee of Navodaya Vidyalaya Staff Association, all the staff members of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Mudipu observed ‘hunger work day.’ All the teachers assembled in front of the Vidyalaya at 7 am, holding placards and banners. The employees demanded their long pending legitimate right of GPF cum pension scheme (1972).
MLA U T Khader inaugurated the hunger work day. He lauded employees of Navodaya Vidyalaya for their committed service in shaping the future citizens of the nation and assured them that he would do his best to meet their demands.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (Mudipu) Principal G J Sakretes said there are about 23,000 staff working in 576 Navodaya Vidyalayas throughout  the country, who are deprived of the pension scheme. All the employees performed their duties throughout the day without having food.
It is said that the employees of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti were inducted initially during the period of its inception 1986-1989 on deputation and from 1989 onwards 50 per cent of the employees were continued to be on deputation. These employees were drawn from pensionable services of State/central government. Though there are 576 JNVs, one each in every district except in Tamil Nadu, the employees are not bestowed with GPF cum pension scheme especially those who joined the organisation prior to January 1, 2004.
Even in Hebri Chara Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya staff members observed hunger strike on Saturday.
