A woman allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at Gandhanahalli in K R Nagar taluk, Mysore district recently.

The woman identified as Bhagyamma (29) committed suicide as she was unable to repay the loans taken by her late husband.

Doddegowda, husband of Bhagyamma, of Kanchinakere had taken a loan of Rs 50,000 from Kaveri Grameena Bank in Hampapura in 2003 and had taken to agriculture. However,  he passed away in a mishap after a few days.

The loan had grown to Rs 1.10 lakh during this period and the bank had issued a notice to Bhagyamma. Learning about the issue, Bhagyamma took a loan of Rs 60,000 from her father and repaid the bank.

However, she was served another notice and following a fear that her house would be seized, Bhagyamma took the extreme step of committing suicide. Doddegowda and Bhagyamma couple have two children. Saligrama police have registered a case.
