Mid-term poll can't be ruled out: Rajnath

A day after Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav spoke of a possible mid-term poll at the Centre, senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh has come out with a similar opinion, saying the fragile nature of the coalition makes it a possibility.

“Given the way the alliance partners in the UPA government are behaving, one cannot rule out the possibility of a mid-term poll,” senior BJP leader Singh said during an informal chat with reporters in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahar district on Saturday.

“The Congress has failed completely in keeping its flock of alliance partners together. The allies are not cooperating with the Congress,” Singh added.

On Friday, Mulayam Singh Yadav had asked his party workers to be prepared for a mid-term poll, directing the state government to implement the poll promises quickly and honestly.

Observers point out that a mid-term poll would actually suit Mulayam, who would look to increase his tally of MPs in the Lok Sabha, while the rival BSP may not be ready for the poll and may step in to help the UPA.
