When talent came to fore

Parva

The students of BCom and BA at Surana College celebrated their annual fest Parva recently. It was a cultural extravaganza of sorts as loud cheers spread across the campus.

The students had only one agenda in mind — to let their hair down and enjoy. The stage was set and once the toppers of each class received their trophies and certificates from their principal, there was no looking back!

The two anchors for the evening, Pranav and Surabhi, began introducing each of the acts in the form of a skit.

While Pranav played a rural boy who is eager to see the various facets of city culture, Surabhi, playing a city-bred, ensured every wish of Pranab’s would be fulfilled in Surana itself. The evening began with a semi-classical dance by Nutan and Swati and was followed by a western group dance by Dimple and group. “Through this piece, we wanted to showcase some freestyle street dance. So we included some b-boying steps as well,” said Dimple.

Staying in tune with the Kannada culture, a section of students presented a traditional folk dance called Kamsale which included challenging balancing acts that the group pulled off with elan.

As fashion is a big part of most college fests, Surana’s fest had not one but two fashion shows.
The first one was done by the students of fashion technology, who presented beautiful anarkalis, dresses and gowns.

A teacher, who was in the audience, clapped enthusiastically as students walked the ramp. She then proudly told everyone sitting nearby that the students themselves had designed the clothes for the show.

The next show was also equally impressive and presented by the students of BCom. Manjunath, a student, entertained the audience with his ‘Mandy Rap’ while Gaurav’s dance team had everyone grooving to Taal Se Taal and Chammak Chalo. Niranjan’s team tickled everyone’s funny bone during mad-ads.

“This is one fest where we not only get to enjoy without any worry but also get a
platform to showcase our hidden talent,” said Pranav, a student.
