A 27-year-old BPO executive was stabbed to death near Akshardham Metro station in east Delhi, police said on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Rohit Kumar, a resident of Mayur Vihar Phase-III, who was working with a BPO located at Nehru Place.

“Rohit was found lying unconscious in a pool of blood on a footpath near the Metro station at around 11 pm on Monday. He was rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital in Khichripur, where he was declared brought dead,” a police official said. A case has been registered under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against unknown persons at Pandav Nagar police station.

Initial investigation has revealed that he was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon and there were deep wounds on his thigh and leg. Police also suspect that Rohit might have been killed over personal enmity. “A wallet containing around Rs 700 in cash and his mobile phone were found intact from the spot.

“It suggests that Rohit was not stabbed with the intent of robbery,” the officer added. It has also been confirmed that he had left office for his home at around 10 pm.

His father, Kanta Prasad, told police that Rohit used to take a DTC bus going towards Outer Mudrika from Nehru Place on a daily basis.

“We are currently investigating to know the exact sequence of events,” the official said.
