<p>National general secretary of Communist Party of India A B Bardhan on Tuesday gave a clarion call to all Left parties, including the CPM, CPI(ML), RSP and the Forward Bloc, to join hands and forge a new coalition as an alternative to the Congress and the BJP.<br /><br /></p>.<p>“We will have to unite and revive the Third Front,” the veteran CPI leader said while addressing a mammoth crowd on the inaugural day of the party’s five-day national convention at the historic Gandhi Maidan here.<br /><br />Slamming the economic policies of the United Progressive Alliance at the Centre, Bardhan said the common man was frustrated over the price rise and unbridled inflation. “Yeh punji-patiyaon ki sarkar hai (This is a capitalist-backed government). Therefore, it can’t provide you relief from rising prices,” averred Bardhan, while lamenting that the BJP was also no different.<br /><br />The 21st convention was attended by top CPI leaders, including Atul Kumar Anjaan, D Raja, Gurudas Gupta and Amarjit Kaur.<br /><br />Gupta took a dig at the Nitish regime and said the high growth rate shown in Bihar was a jugglery of figures. “The fact is that only crime graph has increased in this state,” he said amid thunderous applause. Earlier, thousands of party cadres took out a procession on the main thoroughfares in the state capital, thereby bringing traffic to a halt. <br /></p>
