The High Court of Karnataka on Wednesday upheld the life sentence awarded by a sessions court to an armed reserve police constable who had murdered his for money.
Krishnamurthy was accused of setting his wife, Uma, on fire after she failed to meet his demand to bring Rs 50,000 to pay off a debt. Uma had given a dying declaration and the sessions court awarded life sentence to Krishnamurthy in 2007. The convicted had went in appeal.
The High Court confirmed the sentence after the prosecution submitted that there was enough evidence to establish the culpability of Krishnamurthy.
