Last Updated 28 March 2012, 20:09 IST

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday denied allegations  that the Centre is ignoring financial interests of states.

Mukherjee asserted that after the implementation of Sarkaria Commission’s recommendations, state’s are getting due share of revenue.

During a debate on the Budget in Rajya Sabha, the finance minister said devolution of revenue to states has increased over the years.

Earlier, the Trinamool Congress had raised the issue and accused the government of taking unilateral decisions on Central Sales Tax (CST).

“You know what is happening on the CST. The states, in fact, are losing money, and a unilateral decision has been made not to give the states what is actually due to them," Trinamool member Derek O'Brien said during the debate.

The finance minister pointed out that states are growing at a faster pace. He also hoped that the issue of General Sales Tax (GST) would be addressed.
