Broad likely to miss IPL

Last Updated 02 April 2012, 08:37 IST

England seamer Stuart Broad may miss the fifth edition of the Indian Premier League due to a calf injury.

The 25-year-old, who will miss the second and final Test against Sri Lanka, will fly home immediatly, putting a young Kings XI Punjab-side under more pressure in the event starting on April 4.

Broad played in the first Test in Galle, which England lost by 75 runs, despite struggling with a sprain in his left ankle. He suffered the calf injury during the match. “Broad has been ruled out of the final Test against Sri Lanka,” England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said in a statement.

“Broad will return to the UK immediately for further assessment before beginning a rehabilitation programme which will determine his availability for all cricket, including the IPL,” the statement added.

Doeschate blasts Dhoni

Kolkata Knight Riders’ Dutch import, Ryan ten Doeschate on Friday took a dig at India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni for criticising the Eden Gardens pitch last year.

Asked to comment on Dhoni’s criticism that the Eden wicket was slow and not fit for T20 tournaments, Doeschate said, “How can Dhoni criticise the wicket at Eden? The wicket at Chennai is one of the slowest in the country.”

On the Eden strip, he said, “It suits us and we will have home advantage.”
