'Reclaim encroached land'

Codava National Council President N U Nachappa urged the authorities to initiate measure to reclaim encroached land in Kodagu.

Speaking to presspersons, he said aerial survey should be carried out to find out the extent of encroachment within 48 hours. “If the district administration fails to initiate measure, the CNC will hold satyagraha and will appeal in the court,” he added.

The encroached land should be reclaimed and handed over to the ex servicemen and retired police personnel.

Outsiders are purchasing land in Kodagu. The labourers who have come from North India have encroached land in the district.

A memorandum will be submitted to the Governor through Deputy Commissioner.

He said the government has proposed to include Kodava language in the eighth Schedule of the constitution. This is a victory to the CNC. A torch light procession will be held from RMC Maidan in Gonikoppa on April 14.
