We have no faith in CBI, says Akhilesh

Miffed over the BJP’s demand for a CBI inquiry into Mathura violence, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday accused the saffron party of trying to politicise the incident.

He also said that he had no faith in the central investigating agency. “The BJP has run out of issues...it is trying to make Mathura violence an electoral issue to gain political mileage...it is blind to the development in the state”, Akhilesh said in an informal chat with reporters in Mathura.

Replying to a query, Akhilesh said the judicial commission, which had been set up to probe Mathura violence, would bring out the truth and the government would take stern action against the guilty based on the report.

“We have no faith in the CBI”, he remarked. The BJP has been demanding a CBI probe into the violence.

The state government has set up a one-man judicial commission headed by justice (retd) Imtiyaz Murtaza to probe the incident. The commission would submit its report within two months.  He said that the government deliberately did not use much force at Jawahar Bagh Park, where 32 people, including two senior cops, had been killed in clashes between cult members and police, as there were women and children there.

Earlier, the chief minister visited slain superintendent of police Mukul Dwivedi’s house in Mathura and met the family members. He handed them a cheque of Rs 50 lakh and assured all help to the bereaved family.
