3 held for cheating bank

Three youths who had hoodwinked a multi-national bank pledging imitation jewellery and had secured loan to the tune of Rs 9.8 lakh have been arrested by Kuvempunagar police.

The accused have been identified as Azeez, Sharat and Mohan. Two among them are from Dakshina Kannada and one from Mysore.

The three had pledged the duplicate valuables nearly eight times at ICICI Bank, Kuvempunagar branch, securing total loan of afore said amount. Surprisingly, the bank has a goldsmith working as appraiser and he had inspected the valuables before pledging as is the procedure.

The incident came to light, when the second appraiser unearthed the fraud. Following a complaint from bank authorities, a police team apprehended the accused recently. The investigation is still on to ascertain the related facts, said a police.

Chain snatched

An elderly woman on stroll was relieved of her gold chains worth Rs 80,000 on Friday early hours. Vijayalakshmi, wife of Ramdev, a retired teacher is the victim. A resident of fifth cross, Uttaradi Mutt road, she came out of her house around 6 am for morning walk when a bike-borne youth yanked off two chains. K R Police have registered a case.

2 held for burglary

Vidyaranyapuram police have cracked a theft case arresting two accused in the case.

Gold valuables weighing 59 grams worth Rs 1.60 lakh have been recovered from them. The accused have been identified as Yellappa and Raju, both residents of Bhovi Colony in Kurimandi in N R Mohalla.

The two had allegedly burgled at the house of Joshi, a retired BSNL employee and resdient of J P Nagar in the month of January.
