Ushering in new hope

Last Updated 06 April 2012, 17:43 IST

It’s Easter and families across the City are gearing up for a lavish feast. The interpretation of Easter differs from one individual to another but the common notion remains that Easter depicts love and new hope.

A lot of curiosity surrounds the Easter egg and Easter bunny which are an indispensable part of the festival.  A lot of Christians invite their non-Christian friends just to give them a feel of what the festival is all about. It’s just an excuse for people to get together and share some quality time.

Metrolife spoke to a few families in the City who say Easter is all about giving and giving rather generously. It’s a time set apart exclusively for the family and friends.

For Nayana Emmanuel, a senior HR executive with an IT company, Easter ushers in new hope. She feels Christ’s resurrection is a symbol of hope for all mankind. “The day begins with going to the church. After that we spend time with family and friends. A lot of my non-Christian friends who come home are still curious about the Easter egg but they all love it and we make sure we stock up on some Easter goodies to give away,” explains Nayana.

Runcy O, an employee with Sonic Wall, an IT company, says Easter is a time to rejoice and celebrate after 40 days of Lent. “I usually go home for Easter but this year I have my family coming down. My mother cooks Easter delicacies and the duck roast prepared by her is a speciality among family and friends,” observes Runcy. But he feels Easter is becoming more commercialised. “The actual significance has been lost to materialistic things,” he adds.

Shiney Maria Lewis, a young professional, points out that the Easter meal is important to her. “There is every conceivable non-vegetarian dish on the table. And I live away from home so being with my family makes it special,” she signs off.
