Corporators reject ticket offer

Last Updated 09 April 2012, 20:34 IST

The tiff between the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and the City Corporators over free IPL tickets took a new turn on Monday, when in a huff the BBMP returned 250 tickets offered to it by the KSCA.

Mayor Sharadamma and her deputy S Harish on Monday decided to return the tickets after the KSCA rejected their demand for at least 450 tickets.

The BBMP corporators have demanded that each of them should be given two free tickets, for the corporator and the spouse for the IPL match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Daredevils at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 10. Besides the corporators, the BBMP Council wanted two free tickets each for some of its senior officers.

In righteous indignation, Harish fumed: “Even if they agree to give us 1,000 free passes, we will not accept it. If at all we want to watch the match, we will spend money from our pockets.

“Last year, the KSCA had agreed to give us 450 tickets from next time onwards, which they don’t want to recall now. We too realise that the IPL matches are not for charity but for commercial purpose, whose sole objective is to make profit. So we don’t want any blood money,” Harish said.

When Deccan Herald contacted KSCA Secretary Javagal Srinath, he said he was not aware of any such development. He aded that “the existing practice” would be followed.
