Work for success of pulse polio drive: DC

Deputy Commissioner Dr N V Prasad asked all the officers to work efficiently for the success of the second phase of the pulse polio drive which will begin on April 15.

He was speaking at the preparatory meeting of the officers held to discuss about the pulse polio drive at the Old Fort Hall in Madikeri. The second phase of pulse polio drive, which will be held for three days-on April 15, 16 and 17 is of significance to meet the Central government’s objective to overthrow polio from the nation.

In this regard, pulse polio drops should be administered to every child below the age of five, by paying house to house visit in the rural areas.

The drops will be administered to the children in the cities on April 18. In the backdrop of pulse polio drive he insisted the Cescom Executive Engineer to take measures to ensure continuous power supply during the four days.

The DC said that polio drops should be administered compulsorily to all the children below five years and emphasis should be given to cover children of migrant labourers. The children who were administered the drops in the phase I campaign should be identified and vaccinated this time.

District Nodal Officer for pulse polio campaign Dr Anand informed that the total number of children below age group of five years in the district are 52,140 out of which 46,007 children reside in rural areas and 6,133 children are in the city.

A total of 469 booths have been opened district-wide for administering the drops in second phase. As many as 20 transit teams and two mobile vaccination teams have been formed.

A total of 1896 staff have been deployed for the purpose, 87 supervisors and 918 teams have been formed for the effective drop administration purpose.

Further, he informed that 220 migrant children below the age of five have been identified in the district, and anganwadi workers, ASHA workers and junior health assistants have been deployed for reaching out to them, he said.

In Chikmagalur

Giving out details about the polio drive in Chikmagalur district, Additional Deputy Commissioner K P Honakeri addressing a meeting said that the number of children below the age of five in the district are 1,20,544. As many as 911 booths have been opened and 3,644 staff have been deployed for the purpose. As many as 227 supervisors and 35 mobile vaccinating teams have been formed.
