Tahsildar Mathai said 1.08 lakh records in Hassan taluk office would be completely computerised before Sunday evening.

Speaking to Deccan Herald on Friday, Mathai said all the documents and records had to be computerised so that it can be utilised under Right to Information Act. As the works were not able to be completed due to various reasons, all the village accountants and taluk office officials are working round-the-clock since the past five days to complete it before Sunday.

The information of around 52,000 records have been documented using computers and as Saturday and Sunday are government holidays the staff will work to complete the work on time.

Taluk office have some records that have to be saved permanently and some others that may have to be destroyed within some months/years. Hence, they are segregated into five categories and all the details including year, number and others will be fed into computers along with the date of expiry.

If the computerisation is complete the process would finish in a jiffy. The applicant may get the copy of the record if he is able to inform the year, register number or any one of them. This has come as a boon to the people as they need not run from pillar to post to get the work done, Mathai said.

Single window system

‘Sakala’ which was introduced recently includes more than 150 services of 11 departments. Hassan taluk office has gone a step forward and has introduced a single window system for the benefit of the public from Friday.

All services are not available through ‘Sakala’ but with single window system, public gets solution to all types of problems. The work would be done within a week after submitting the application at the single window, and the applicant may receive the relevant documents at the same spot.

If it is not possible to provide the necessary details of the office to be contacted will be given to facilitate the applicant. This would also help in curbing corruption and the system has begun in Hassan on a pilot basis and if it is successful it would be suggested to adapt the method in all the taluks.

Shortage of staff

Due to shortage of staff and other reasons it is not possible to serve the public on time and hence it has been decided to begin another shift from 5 pm to 12 midnight and is being implemented from Friday, Mathai said.

A 24-hour helpline is in place at the taluk office in view of heavy rains in various parts of the district since a couple of days. If anybody is suffering from rain related problems, they can immediately contact 08172 268395 and provide information. The respective village accountant or official concerned will immediately rush to the spot or do needful, he added.
