Strange indeed are the ways of the Uttar Pradesh police, infamous for its “insensitivity” and conniving with the high and mighty to implicate innocent people.

The cops in UP’s Balrampur district, about 250 km from here, have lodged a case of rape and abduction against a six-year-old boy — a student of lower kindergarten of a local school.

Along with the child—Sajan Kumar—his elder brother 10-year-old Rajan Kumar has also been booked for the same offence, according to police sources.

According to reports, one Jeetram Yadav a few months ago had moved an application in the court of chief judicial magistrate alleging that his 13-year-old daughter had been abducted in May last year by some people. He alleged that the girl, who was rescued by the police three months later, had been raped.

He alleged the police did not lodge any report in this regard despite the fact that he approached them several times and also disclosed the names of the accused to them.

In his plea, Jeetram alleged that one Vijay Kumar, his wife Koyla, Jagatram, Rajan Kumar and Sajan Kumar were behind the abduction and accused Rajan and Sajan of raping his daughter.

Taking cognizance of the matter, the court had ordered the police to register a case and investigate the matter. The cops, without making any attempt to ascertain the age of the two children, registered a case of abduction and rape against all of them.

Of the accused, Vijay Bahadur had already been arrested and sent to jail. The cops now find themselves in a fix over the charges against the two kids.

The father of the kids Anant Ram said they had been falsely implicated by Jeetram since he (Anant) was Vijay Bahadur’s relative. Additional Superintendent of Police Gopesh Khanna said: “We are investigating the matter and necessary action will be taken after ascertaining the facts.”
