The United Karnataka Chess Association (UKCA) which is recognised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports and affiliated to All India Chess Federation will conduct the first UKCA Cup All India open Fide rated chess tournament at Subrahmanya Sabha at Jail Road from April 28 to May 2.

UKCA President M S Gururaj informed that it is for the first time All India open Fide rated chess tournament is held in Karnataka. The KCA will conduct 10 All India open Fide rated chess tournaments in the year 2012 out of which four will conducted under the banner of UKCA and six will be conducted by District chess Association and chess academies affiliated to UKCA.

He said that for the first time UKCA has taken the decision to conduct all the chess tournaments as open chess tournaments. In India open chess tournaments are not conducted very often as the players will have to face tough challenges from the national and international chess players.

However, UKCA has decided to promote open chess tournaments to ensure that the amateur players too will get an opportunity to play with the national and international chess champions.

As many as 300 players are expected to participate in the tournament including 7-8 international players. A total cash prize of Rs two lakh will be shared by top 65 players.

Only those players who are registered under AICF will be allowed to participate in the tourney. Players will have to bring their own chess sets and clocks. The last date to receive entries is April 25, informed Gururaj.
