The Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) that continued its combing operation on Saturday, following exchange of fire with the ultras on Friday evening, found a small camp in the Punjalabetta forest area in Kuthloor of Belthangady taluk.

A senior police officer told Deccan Herald that the combing operation began on Saturday morning, as the firing took place late on Friday evening.

The ANF found pegs of a tent, groundsheet, a barrel of a double barrel gun, an empty grenade, a dairy, a black waist cloth, a cap and a few books, including the Karl Marx, at the camp site.

“It looked like the naxals had escaped from the place. However, the ANF will continue its operations,” he said.

Constable hurt

While returning from the combing operation, an ANF constable, Satish, was hurt in an accidental firing. Satish lost his balance and pulled the trigger, with the bullet hitting his thigh. “He was treated and is out of danger now,” the source informed.
