It is an example of unscientific ways adopted by the public to dispose the waste. Garbage dumped beside the roads, empty land makes it difficult to believe that Madikeri is a district headquarters.

The residents are worried over the spread of contagious diseases during summer. Madikeri is a tourist spot in the map of tourism. Thousands of tourists visit the district every day. If the authorities give importance to cleanliness, then the district can attract more number of tourists, feel many citizens.

The CMC has been appealing with the merchants and the public to help the CMC in maintaining cleanliness in the town. The City Municipality Council has put in place a mechanism for disposal of waste. “The CMC has directed all the citizens not to throw waste into the drain which passes through KSRTC bus stand.

The waste disposed by the households are taken away to disposal unit by the Sthree Shakthi Group’s tractor and auto tippers. The fee for collecting waste from the households should be paid to the CMC office and not to the Sthree Shakthi Group which is engaged in disposing the waste in the town,” sources.

The CMC has urged the public not to paste posters on the walls and thus damage the beauty of the town. If any one is found violating the rules will be punished.

The CMC Commissioner Shashikumar said if any one found harming the beauty of the city, then the public can dial 220111 and complain to the CMC.

He said all the hotels have been asked to supply with hot water and maintain cleanliness while preparing the food. The hotels should compulsorily display the price for food supplied in the hotel.
