Drought relief works at snail's pace

Last Updated 23 April 2012, 16:59 IST

The residents of Bovi colony poured their woes to Sakleshpur assistant commissioner and Nodal officer of drought relief work Pallavi Akurathi who visited the colony in Halebeedu taluk recently.

The people complained that apart from laying pipelines no other work has been taken up under drought relief programme and the residents queuing up in front of the taps is a common scene.

Motor pumps have been installed at the Bandilakkanakoppalu roadside and lack of maintenance has resulted in rising water woes in the region. The gram panchayat has turned a blind eye towards the problems and the defunct motor not repaired for more than three months is a proof of this, they complain.

Now the residents are coughing up money for autorickshaws as they are fetching water from the Dwarasamdra lake. Teacher M Mahadevappa said that the borewell water at the college campus has high fluoride content and D Patel Rudregowda family are supplying water from the borewell in their compound.

They stressed that water be filled to the water tanks supplying Yagachi river water to benefit the villagers.
Gram panchayat president C R Lingappa Premanna, members Gangadhar and others were present.
