The 6th Annual Exhibition’ of RV College of Architecture concluded in a grand manner recently.

The two-day event provided an opportunity for students to display their creativity in all aspects.

Unlike other exhibitions, this one comprised special talks, workshops, panel discussions, competitions, cultural events, film screening and much more.

The students of various colleges like BMS College of Engineering, Dayananda Sagar Institutions and University of Visweswaraya College of Engineering took part in the exhibition in good number.

The main speaker of the exhibition was renowned architect B V Doshi from Ahmedabad. Doshi, who is considered the pioneer of modern architecture in India, delivered an inspiring speech.

“Architecture is not just a subject, it comprises everything. It does not divide. Instead, it connects people. It’s like a river which merges with the ocean. Over the years, architects have isolated themselves from the rest,” he pointed out.

“When we visit a historical place, we appreciate its designs. Have we ever thought of building a timeless structure like that? One has to look for sustainable designs and build a structure which gives happiness and comfort. For that, you need to sharpen your sensibilities,” he advised.

Architects like Bijoy Ramachandran, Soumitro Ghosh, Sandeep Jain, Sameep Padora, Sandhya Janardhan, B L Manjunath and Mohan Rao delivered speeches on various aspects of architecture.

Students enjoyed the panel discussions as they were informative and interactive. Many participants turned up for a design competition on the topic ‘Bangalore 2050’ and workshops on archi-origami and abstract art.

A short film on architecture called ‘Flashback’ was screened on the occasion and many students from the engineering stream enjoyed the movie as well.

There were nearly 400 projects, theses and models on display, which reflected the novel ideas of students.

The ‘Best Performance in Architectural Design’ awards were given to Vedika Modi (first year), Sujay Thomas (second year), Sacheth Ullal (third year), Tejesh Kumar (fourth year) and Vaswar Mitra (fifth year).

The cultural events were a big hit as students enjoyed them thoroughly. Kalpana Sumanth and Umashankar presented a Hindustani recital on the first day.

This was followed by a jazz performance. Popular rock band ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ gave an energetic performance on the concluding day.

It was more like a college fest for the students who had a great time during the exhibition. “All students were dressed in ethnic wear on both the days.

It was a great opportunity for us to gain exposure on varied thoughts and ideologies.

We interacted with Doshi sir as well as other eminent architects in the City. It was an enriching experience,” summed up Parthavi Ram, one of the student organisers.
