JOIN USMediwave IVF and Fertility Research Centre would hold free test camp for recurrent miscarriages (Recurrent Pregnancy Loss) from April 29 to May 28, said director of the centre Dr C Sharath Kumar.
Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, he said, the tests would be free as the centre was conducting research in association with the University of Mysore.
“It is always a woman, who takes the blame for recurrent miscarriages. So, there is a need to create awareness that men are equally responsible for it due to various reasons like lifestyle, use of electronic gadgets, etc.”
Assistant professor of zoology, University of Mysore, S S Malini, who is heading the research, pointed out male factors involved in recurring pregnancy loss, which is most often neglected. “Abnormal sperm morphology, motility, vitality and many other factors are equally responsible for miscarriage among women. Most of the problems could be rectified with timely treatment,” she said.
“Semen analysis, biochemical analysis of semen, cytogenetic analysis and molecular diagnostics would be conducted for men,” she added.
Malini claimed that these tests were not available anywhere in Mysore and if available the costs would be very high. As it is for research purpose, no fee would be collected from patients at Mediwave. “All samples of blood or semen of patients have to be sent to Hyderabad for test. After receiving the reports, patients would be guided about further treatment,” she said.
