KSP goes to poll today

More than one lakh members will cast votes in the election to the Kannada Sahitya Parishat scheduled for Sunday. 

The premier literary body established in the year 1915 has as many as 1,08,028 members. The poll to the Parishat assumes significance since the august literary body is on the threshold of its centenary celebrations.

Pundalika Halambi, former president Prof Chandrashekhar Patil (Champa), former secretary Jaragnahalli Shivashankar, film actor Ashoka are in the fray among others. 

There has been a 74 per cent increase in the membership over the last four years. The Parishat had 61,958 members when the elections were held in 2008. Bangalore Urban continues to top the State with 15,744 members followed by Mandya and Hassan districts.

Tumkur, which stood second has slipped to fourth position in terms of number of members.
