It was an out-and-out 'maiden' Jaycycle 2012!

Even as the state government and city corporation are mulling the creation of cycle across the city, students of Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE) decided to use their college fest as a platform to urge more people to take to cycling.

‘Jaycycle-12’ held as part of Jayciana, the annual college fest of SJCE, was organised by the students of Construction Technology and Management students at the college campus here on Sunday morning.

‘Jaycycle’ is an initiative to rejoice in the novelty of cycling in the present busy modern age, the organisers said.

The event witnessed more than 250 participants arriving at the venue to take part in the 18 km race. Also, 25 took part in the 15 km event held for women.

Foreign national Mark Anderson won the men’s category of the race completing the race in 34 minutes.

In the women’s category, Smitha of University of Mysore emerged as the winner. She was followed by Sowmya, a student of SJCE.

Jaycycle started at SJCE premises and passed through Hunsur road, Metropole Circle, Railway station, Ashoka road, Clock tower, Gun House, Kantharaj Urs road, Apollo Hospital, Andolana Circle and culminated at the college campus.
