Tennis: Karnataka challenge ends; Prajwal Dev loses

 With S D Prajwal losing on Thursday, the Karnataka challenge ended at the NETA-Inner Wheel ‘Basant Cup-2012’ tennis tournament being played at the Mysore Tennis club.

On Wednesday except Prajawal Dev who had entered the quarter finals, all other Karnataka players had lost. But on Thursday Tamil Nadu second seeded I B Akshay scoring a 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-1 victory over Prajwal Dev in the semi-finals, the hosts challenge  ended. In another semi-final Uttar Pradesh’s Deepak Vishwakarma defeated Tamil Nadu’s Vasudev Vijayraman in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. The top seeded Vishwakarma will face Akshay in the final.

In the under-18 boys category semi-finals Tamil Nadu’s M Fahad upset top seed Manish Kumar of Delhi 6-3, 6-3. In another match Assam’s Abhinanu Bore Thakur defeated I B Akshay 7-5, 6-2 and entered the finals.

Shweta, Smriti enter finals

In the under-18 girls category top seeded player Shweta Srihari of Tamil Nadu scored an easy straight set 6-1,6-2 win over Karnataka’s A Shamina and entered the finals. In another semi-final Delhi’s Smriti defeated Andhra Pradesh’s Rashmi Reddy Pasoola 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.

In the under-16 girls category Delhi’s Smriti once again entered the finals defeating Bhavani Balkumar 6-1, 63 and in another semi-final match A Shamima scored a straight set 6-3, 6-0 win over Tamil Nadu’s N Ramya and entered the final.
