CM orders CID probe into church attack

Yeddyurappa, during a debate on the incident on Thursday, had said he would make a statement on the issue. As the House assembled on Friday, Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah demanded that the chief minister make the statement. Yeddyurappa said his government would order a CID probe into the incident.

In the Legislative Council, Leader of the Opposition V S Ugrappa and other Congress MLCs demanded a discussion on the recent communal incidents at Bababudangiri as well as the church attack. Ugrappa also demanded that the government take strong action against miscreants.

In a fractious opening to the House proceedings in the morning, Congress MLC V R Sudarshan indicted the government for the attack and alleged that forces acting on behalf of the government were indulging in communal violence.

The comment provoked BJP MLCs who accused the Congress leader of prejudice and demanded that he withdraw his remarks. Home Minister V S Acharya termed Sudarshan’s statement irresponsible and said that he would issue a statement on the church attack on the floor of the House.
