JOIN USHigh jumper S Harshith and hurdler Meghana Shetty struck gold for Karnataka on the opening day of the Junior Federation Cup (Under-20) athletics meet here on Tuesday.
Harshith sailed over the bar at 2.15 metres to win the gold, erasing L Yograj’s meet record of 2.14 metres in the process.
The 18-year-old trainee of G V Gaonkar has a personal best of 2.17 metres set last year in Ranchi but he could not reach that height on the day.
Meghana, a trainee of V R Beedu, timed 14.81 seconds to win the gold in the girls 100M hurdles, finished well ahead of Kerala’s Adheena P G (14.92). Another Karnataka girl, Prajna S Prakash, won the bronze in 15.14.
However the day belonged to Maharashtra hurdler Anish Abhay Joshi. A student of Trinity College of Engineering, Pune, accelerated against a strong head-wind to clock a 14.05 seconds for the gold in 110M hurdles, erasing state-mate Siddanth Thingalaya’s meet record of 14.20.
