A battle of brains

The management studies department of Dayananda Sagar College of  Engineering (DSCE) conducted an inter-collegiate quiz competition recently called ‘Parcchana 2012’, which witnessed a decent participation.

The one-day event drew teams from 23 colleges across the City, with two members in each team.  The theme of the quiz was ‘Branding’, and covered topics related to business and general knowledge.

The quiz had a preliminary round, which consisted of 45 questions.  The four teams with the highest scores were chosen for the final round.

The various rounds in the quiz tested the management-related knowledge of the
students.  The quiz master for the competition was Sai Suresh, a faculty member of  the management department of the institution.

One of the rounds in the quiz was ‘Taglines’, in which the tag-lines of certain brands were jumbled and the participants had to rearrange them in the proper form.

In the ‘Logos’ round, a part of a company’s symbol was shown to the students, who had to identify it. The third and fourth rounds, ‘Connectivity’ and ‘Picture Connect’, tested
the creative skills of the students.

In ‘Picture Connect’, three or four parts of a picture were displayed at a time  and the teams had to put them together, like a jigsaw puzzle.

The final round, ‘Brand Quiz’, was a buzzer round which had six questions. A wrong answer would result in negative marks. All the teams were determined to win the competition.

The team from TAPMI Manipal, comprising a group of second-year MBA students, walked away with the trophy while the fourth-year students of the industrial management and engineering department of DSCE were the runners up.

The event proved to be an informative one since the students received an in-depth knowledge of the management field. The questions were carefully framed by the faculty members of the management department of DSCE to keep participants engaged throughout the quiz.

The students seemed to have fun during the quiz. They said they liked the kind of questions that were asked and got a chance to interact with other like-minded students as well.
