<p>Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will have an interactive session with Directors General of Police and Inspectors General of Police on Tuesday during which he will be directly briefed on key policing and internal security issues.<br /><br />Apart from chalking out strategies to check circulation of fake currency notes, insurgency in the Northeast and strengthening of intelligence apparatus, the DGPs and the IGPs will discuss National Police Mission, corporate frauds and security arrangements being planned for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in 2010.<br /><br />Union Home Minister P Chidambaram will inaugurate the conference and he is likely to share his experience gathered during the just concluded visit to the US where he extensively interacted with top security experts of that country.<br /><br />The objectives of the conference are to provide an interactive platform to senior police professionals and security administrators in the country to freely discuss and debate diverse national security related issues, as also the various operational, infrastructural and welfare-related problems faced by police in the country.<br /><br />Formulation and sharing of professional practices and processes in tackling challenges relating to crime control and law and order management will also be discussed during the meet.<br /><br />The conference offers opportunities for generation and exchange of ideas on capacity building for the police in respect of manpower, training, logistics and advanced technology.<br /><br />The Intelligence Bureau organised the first ever conference of IGPs in India in 1920 and since then these have been held regularly at New Delhi in the post-Independence period.<br />The first conference was organised in 1950. In the beginning, it was a biennial event, but after 1973, it became an annual meeting for the heads of police organisations in the States/Union Territories and of the central police organisations. Director of the Intelligence Bureau, is the ex-officio chairman of the conference.<br /><br />Following the tradition established by Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, the first Home Minister of the country, the conference is customarily inaugurated by the Union Home Minister.</p>
