HC rejects A K Reddy's bail plea for 'non-cooperation'

He sought relief, citing all other accused in CWG scam got bail. The Delhi High Court on Tuesday dismissed the bail plea of A K Reddy, arrested for alleged irregularities in a contract for timing, scoring and result (TSR) equipment for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Justice Mukta Gupta rejected Reddy’s bail plea while accepting the prosecution’s argument that he had failed to cooperate with the investigation, and had been declared as a proclaimed offender by a trial court.

‘No merit in contentions’

“I don’t find any merit in the contentions made by the petitioner’s counsel. I do hereby dismiss the petition,” Justice Gupta said.

Reddy had sought bail on grounds of parity, pleading that as the main accused, Suresh Kalmadi and CWG organising committee director General V K Verma, were freed on bail and he is also entitled to the same relief.

Challenging the trial court’s February 16 order dismissing his plea, Reddy had said the alleged role attributed to him is insignificant compared to other accused, including Kalmadi and Verma.

‘Not involved’

Earlier, Reddy’s lawyer had contended before the HC that the chargesheet did not disclose that his client had conspired or was in any way involved in the alleged conspiracy with any of the CWG OC members, or the other accused.

Reddy’s counsel had submitted that his client must be given bail as he had never tried to influence witnesses in the case. Reddy, an official of Hyderabad-based AKR Construction, is the only accused who has not been granted bail by the court in the case.
All others, including former Commonwealth Games 2010 organising committee chairperson Suresh Kalmadi, have been released on bail.

The OC officials and two companies were charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for cheating, criminal conspiracy and forgery and under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
