<p>The PU Board Director’s circular for withholding the salary of those lecturers who failed to teach stipulated period (16 hours) in a week has put several PU College teachers to trouble in Kodagu district. <br /><br /></p>.<p>The circular, which was passed while releasing the salary of the teacher for March-April has warned of holding DD PU Board responsible for releasing the salary of those teachers who have not completed 16 hours of teaching in a week. <br /><br />The circular is applicable to Aided Private College lecturers and not the government PU <br />College lecturers. <br /><br />There are 11 Aided PU Colleges in Kodagu district. Accordingly, about 76 lecturers will feel the heat of the order. The order has put even the DDPUE into trouble. There is a fear of getting punishment from the government if the salary is credited. <br /><br />In fact few teachers had said that it was not possible to teach 16 hours in a week with the decline in the number of students getting enrolled to the PU Colleges and starting of new PU Colleges. <br /><br />“As per the government order, lecturers should teach minimum of eight hours to 16 hours. There is no problem in teaching for eight hours in a week. However, there is shortage of students for few subjects like political science, geography, sociology, logic. In such a situation, how is it possible to meet the stipulated period in a week,?” asks Kodagu District PU College Lecturers’ and Employees’ Association President P Mahadevaswamy. <br /><br />If the teaching hour is considered as yardstick for releasing the salary, what should the lecturers do for their livelihood? Who should be blamed for shortage of students? Few teachers’ salary has been withheld in the district, he questioned<br /><br />PU Department in-charge Deputy Director Sathish said “the conditions laid down by the Department Director for releasing the salary has been brought to our notice. The salary has been distributed to all to ensure that no teachers are put to hardship. We will try to bring the problems of those teachers who fail to complete 16 hours of teaching in a week to the notice of the department head.” <br /></p>
