Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Siddaramaiah said Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa had unfortunately failed to understand the conditions prevailing in China, which had adopted stringent population control policy and suggested two-child plan.

“Health care system is weak in India. Besides, child mortality rate is also high in the country because of malnutrition and other reasons. Before batting for such an idea, the State government must understand the ground realities and correct the system,” he said.
Siddaramaiah said the population control issue must be debated at the national level. Then only a decision could be taken on the issue.

He alleged corruption had reached a new height during the BJP rule in the State. He said the government must conduct at least 60 days of Legislature Session a year. But so far it has conducted only 20 days.

Opposing the proposal to construct one more airport in Bellary, he said, Bellary district already has two airports. “Reddy brothers have taken it (having one more airport) as a prestige issue. Yeddyurappa is tight lipped on the issue. But we will not allow one more airport to come up in Bellary,” he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council V S Ugrappa said Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa was speaking about the population control without knowing the basics.

He also said the Congress would soon go to the people to explain the BJP government’s failure on all fronts, including the law and order.
